Year 5 Football - League and County Champions

24 May 22

Last Friday, the Year 5 football team had their last league action for the year with a league away game versus St Annes School. After not playing for a few weeks, the boys were keen and fired up to end the season strongly. The game began with lots of hard fought battles and end to end play. The first half drew to a close at 1-1, with the game looking very even and in the balance. The second half kicked off and produced some intense end to end runs and shots being fired in from all angles. The game soon turned and was then 4-4 with not much time left on the clock. Cleves continued to fight for the ball and opened up the St Annes defence to take the lead. The intense game ended 7-4 to Cleves and the boys have now clinched the league title unbeaten for a second time this year. Huge congratulations to all the boys. One county cup final on Tuesday to go...

On Tuesday afternoon, Cleves set out on their final journey of the football season with the highly anticipated Surrey County Cup Final. On arrival at Meadowbank Stadium, Dorking, the boys were eager to get started and get the ball rolling. The final kicked off with some fantastic battles and end to end play from both sides. Cleves dominated the possession and on numerous occasions struggled to make the final pin-point ball through. The lively first half ended at 0-0, with all the Cleves boys digging deep to stay in the fight. After some reflection on their performance, the boys set out for the second half with the goal to score fresh in their minds. Cleves flew out the blocks and managed to force a goal early on to break the deadlock. After the continuing solid defensive display, the Cleves defence seemed unbeatable. With the game beginning to open up, the boys took advantage of the space and with some quicker passing and layoffs, Cleves took another goal to put them 2-0 into the lead. Settling the game down, the boys kept possession and comfortably held onto the victory. The Cleves boys are now the 2022 Surrey County Cup Champions. A thoroughly deserved win and a huge congratulations to all the boys for the fantastic efforts through the game and for their performances all season!
