SPORT AT CLEVES

Curriculum

All pupils at Cleves spend two hours a week taking part in physical education. This is broken down into one indoor session and one outdoor session per week. Indoor sessions will be based on gymnastics, dance or agility exercises. Outdoor sessions are based on team games, striking and fielding games or athletics. This structure is in line with the National Curriculum.

Swimming

When pupils enter the school in Year 3 they are assessed to see if they are able to swim 25m. Those who cannot will go to The Excel Leisure Centre for swimming lessons. This swimming lesson takes place while the rest of their class has outdoor games. Once in Year 6, pupils are monitored against the National Curriculum target of (at least) 25m.

Extra Curricular Sport

Government guidelines recommend that children do at least 5 hours physical activity a week. At Cleves we are helping to enable this by offering opportunities for your children to take part in more sport.

Clubs

Cleves School offers an enormous range of sports clubs for pupils to take part in. Many clubs are run by outside agencies, all of whom have appropriate qualifications and are familiar with working with children. The clubs run by outside agencies require a fee. There are also clubs run by Cleves staff, which do not require payments. Your child will be informed on a termly basis what clubs are available.
Clubs include: football, netball, rugby, hockey, tennis, fencing, golf, judo, ultimate frisbee, cricket, rounders, cross-country.

School Teams

Cleves School takes part in many inter-school sports events. We have a reputation in the area for always producing teams of a high standard, both physically and in terms of their sportsmanship. The children who represent the school take pride in what they do and there is often strong competition for places. These teams are run by school staff who put in extra work to support these children.

Football trip to the Netherlands

Every May, Cleves runs a football trip to The Netherlands. Around 60 children travel to Holland to enter a football competition with entrants from all over Europe. These boys and girls make up 6 teams who are run by parents who volunteer to help out on the trip.
