All pupils at Cleves spend at least two hours a week taking part in physical education. This is broken down into one indoor session and one outdoor session per week. Indoor sessions will be based on gymnastics, dance or agility exercises. Outdoor sessions are based on team games, striking and fielding games or athletics. This structure is in line with the National Curriculum.

Extra Curricular Sport

Government guidelines recommend that children do at least 5 hours physical activity a week. At Cleves we are helping to enable this by offering opportunities for children to take part in more sport.

School Teams

Cleves School takes part in many inter-school sports events. We have a reputation in the area for always producing teams of a high standard, both physically and in terms of their sportsmanship. The children who represent the school take pride in what they do and there is often strong competition to make a team. These teams are run by school staff who put in extra work to support these children.

Football Trip to the Netherlands

Every May, Cleves runs a football trip to The Netherlands. Around 60 children travel to Holland to enter a football competition with entrants from all over Europe. These boys and girls make up 6 teams who are run by parents who volunteer to help out on the trip.

Gold Kite Mark

We have achieved the Gold Kite Mark award for our outstanding participation in PE and Sport at Cleves.

In football, we have both girls and boys football teams. In previous years, we have managed to compete at a National Level.

We compete in cross country events, district sports and indoor athletics. Previously, we have been county and regional champions.

We teach the children how to play high 5 netball and always have mixed teams competing against other schools from Year 4-6. The netball squads are always very successful.

Children attend swimming lessons in year 5 if they cannot swim at least 25m.

All years have the opportunity to compete in mini tennis competitions. These competitions occur annually.
