Early Risers
This is an in house facility for children whose parents need to drop them off between 8.00am and 8.30am because of work commitments. The children meet in the studio and are supervised until 8.30am when they may move into their classroom or onto the playground. Teachers are on duty from 8.30am and therefore children cannot be left elsewhere in the school unsupervised.
There is a minimal charge for the cost of supervision of the children of £1.50 per day or £6.00per week. Early Risers is not a profit making facility.
GAP Club
The GAP club is the name of our After School Club. It runs from 3.15 - 6.00pm in the Studio and is very popular. Children can attend on a full or part time basis and are given healthy snacks and drinks during the session. They undertake a variety of activities and spend much of the time outside in the summer. This is not a homework club but a place for children to relax and have fun after a busy school day. Places are restricted to 45 children and subsequently this facility is often over subscribed. The GAP club is OFSTED registered and is run by Mrs Gillian Smith. You can download a GAP club application form and terms and conditions (please download both). If you are applying for a GAP club place as your child is starting in Year 3 in September please be aware that Mrs Smith will not be able to confirm a space to you until July. This is because parents are not obliged to relinquish/rebook places for the following year until this time - we therefore suggest you have a contingency plan in case we are unable to accomodate you.
Travelling to and from School
As with most schools we suffer from traffic problems at the beginning and end of school. In an effort to lessen the pain and frustration for everyone (including our neighbours) we would ask you to adhere to a few simple guidelines:
In the morning – A drive in – drop off and drive out system operates in the school car park. This works well if everyone keeps moving – parking up, long goodbyes and rummaging in the boot for a school bag – grid locks the car park, so please make sure your child is ready to jump (safely) out of the car and move on. Please do not park in the parking bays these are for staff only – if you are parked in them the staff cannot get to their class.
In the afternoon – the school gates are closed. You should park on the school side of Oatlands Avenue where space allows – do not double/triple park or park on zigzags – not only is this illegal but so dangerous – even for a short time. Commuter parking from Walton Station means there are rarely spaces outside of the school – so if you drive please set off early and be prepared to walk a distance to the school. When you move off do not attempt U turns. This causes chaos.
If your collection arrangements change – please make sure your child knows what these are before they come to school. If they change at the last moment or you think you may be late – please call the school before 3PM to allow us time to get a message to your child. After this time we cannot guarantee they will get the message and likewise after the bell has rung we are unable to try and locate children amongst the 600 leaving school at that time.
Please instil in your child that if they are waiting for you and you do not arrive after 10-15 minutes they should immediately report to Reception where we will endeavour to contact you. Children should not wait alone outside of the school grounds.
Better, healthier options are to walk or cycle to school.
We are happy for accompanied children to cycle to school and are actively encouraging the development of cycle paths around the area. We will be increasing the number of cycle racks available with our new Sports Hall. We have guidelines for cycling to school and they can be obtained from reception or by downloading a form here. Cycling in and around the school grounds is not permitted – cyclists must dismount outside of the school and enter the grounds through the Safety Gate – not through the main entrance or car park.
