Working Together

The Cleves Vision Statement gives a clear description of our aims for our school and its pupils:

At Cleves we aim to develop an inclusive community in which each individual feels supported and secure and through which everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed

At Cleves we aim to teach skills, knowledge and understanding which pupils need to lead confident, healthy lives and to become informed active and responsible citizens through the provision of a broad, balanced curriculum

At Cleves, we are all learners, striving to progress and develop.

We achieve this by providing:

  • Mutual respect
  • Celebrating achievements
  • Residential visits
  • Community and Industry links
  • Music
  • French
  • Sport
  • Top quality learning
  • High standards
  • Equal opportunities

Home School Agreement

Our Vision Statement is further communicated via our Home School Agreement which every pupil and parent signs on joining the school and annually thereafter to reaffirm their understanding and commitment to the schools vision, aims and expectations. This agreement is signed also by your teacher, the Headteacher and the Chair of Governors.

Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct is issued on joining the school and is signed by each pupil in acceptance and understanding of what is expected of the conduct whilst at school. A similar document is issued each time your child goes on a residential visit and continues these themes but adds specifics for the visit they are attending. A copy is kept on file throughout their time at school.

Parent Consultations

This is the ideal opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher to discuss progress. You can of course contact them at other times but there are three sets of consultations per year at strategic times. The first held after school during October gives pupils the time to settle in their new year group and their teacher gets to know them. In March we currently carry out consultations during the day - these are slightly longer and your child should attend with you. This is a great opportunity for a joint understanding by pupil, parent and teacher and sets the way ahead for the rest of the year. In July a final set of consultations are arranged after school as a round up for the year.

Pastoral Care

We pride ourselves on the high level of pastoral care we provide at Cleves. This care is a three way process between staff, parent and child and requires everyone to be involved. If you have a concern about any aspect of school life we would much rather you contact us whilst a problem is small rather than letting them grow! There are different channels to follow depending on where your concern lies. Your class teacher will always be the first pot of call.

ChildLine

ChildlineChildLine is a counselling service for children and young people which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact ChildLine about anything - no problem is too big or too small. The ChildLine website has numerous resources that can help on their website. Just click on their logo.

Childline also have a video of what happens when a child or young person calls ChildLine. A link to this can be found on the right hand side.

Assertive Discipline

At Cleves we operate a whole school policy on behaviour called 'Assertive Discipline'. This places the responsibility for behaviour with the child.

At the beginning of the academic year, the classteacher will negotiate class rules with the children. These will be displayed in the classroom together with an agreed set of rewards and sanctions. Children therefore know exactly how bad behaviour will be dealt with and how good behaviour will be rewarded - the choice is theirs!

The emphasis is on positive feedback and a fresh start is made every day.

Letters

We are a large school and offer a lot of opportunities. This means we generate a large number of letters which are sent home via your children. Often these contain important information and may have short deadlines so you do need to regularly check your child's bag.

However, we will endeavor to keep an up to date list of letters here on the website so if you think you have missed something please visit our Letters page.

All responses to letters should always be sent via your classteacher unless otherwise directed. Please dont leave responses at reception - if everything goes through the classroom we can keep a track on things! Thank you
