School Meals & Packed Lunch

School Lunches are nutritious and delicious, prepared in our on-site kitchen by qualified Caterlink Ltd staff. Each half term a letter is sent to parents advising them of the forthcoming half term's cost of the lunches; payment can also be made per term or weekly. Free school meals can be applied for via the Welfare Office.

Every day the pupils are given a meal ticket which they hand in upon collection of their lunch. Children can choose from a hot meal, vegetarian hot meal or an extensive salad bar with a variety of sandwiches and jacket potatoes with different toppings. A range of desserts, including fresh fruit is always available as is fresh bread and water.

When bringing a Packed Lunch to school pupils should have a sturdy named box (no plastic bags please) for their lunch, no fizzy drinks or glass bottles are allowed. Leftovers cannot be disposed of at school as we do not have the facilities and must be returned home. We urge parents to provide a nutritionally balanced packed lunch. Click here for suggestions on healthy packed lunches.

AT CLEVES SCHOOL WE ADHERE TO A STRICTLY NO NUTS POLICY due to the high number of allergies amongst our pupils. Please contact the Welfare Office if you wish to discuss any aspect of the lunch hour.

Valuables

Pupils are able to wear a watch to school. Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, ear studs and any other form of jewelry are not permitted for safety reasons. For this reason we advise that ear piercing happens at the start of the summer holiday so that earrings can be removed at the beginning of the new academic year.

Mobile phones can only be brought in by pupils if absolutely necessary and should not be switched on during school time. The school will not look after or take responsibility for mobile phones belonging to pupils, this applies to any other gadgets, such as mp3 players. Our advice is for you to discourage your child to bring these in.

Welfare/Medical

If your child needs to have medication regularly or suffers from an allergy you need to discuss this with the Welfare Officer. Together we will draw up a medical plan to suit your child's needs. If an ad hoc medical need, such as the administration of antibiotics, arises make sure you speak to the Welfare Officer, too. Please ensure the school records are up to date by advising us of any changes such as a house move or telephone number so that we can contact you swiftly in case of your child's sickness or any other emergency.

The children have a very busy day at school and it is imperative that they are well rested to start the day fresh and ready to participate. To that effect please make sure your child is at school on time, having had breakfast and bring a morning snack, such as a piece of fruit.

Attendance and the School day

Children are expected to be in class ready to start school at 8.50am. Children should not be left on the premises before 8.30am unless attending Early Risers and should be collected from school promptly at 3.15pm unless attending an after school club or the GAP club.

The school day consists of:

Session One 8.50am - 11.00am
Break 11.00am - 11.15am
Session Two 11.15am - 12.15pm
Lunch 12.15pm - 1.15pm
Session Three 1.15pm - 3.15pm

Holidays/Absence during school time are not encouraged as this learning can never be replaced. However if it is absolutely necessary to take your child out of school during term time a Leave of Absence Form should be completed in advance of the time required and given to your teacher. This can be done online (see the right hand column - top of of this page) or by collecting a form from Reception.

If your child is ill he/she should stay at home to fully recover. You should inform the school by phone or by email (see the right hand column - top of this page). if you do this you need not follow up in writing - however if you havent phoned or emailed you must cover the absence in writing. Absence must be reported by 9.30am
