Admission to Cleves

The application process for the main intake to Cleves at Year 3 starts as your child joins Year 2 at their Infant School. Currently there is an application window of approx. 4 weeks from mid September to mid October in which you can attend open evenings and tour the schools of your choice.

You will then complete a Surrey County Council Admissions Form and list three schools that you would prefer your child to attend in order of preference. You will also need to complete a Cleves Admission Form. The Surrey form is returned to your Infant School and the Cleves form to Cleves. Our admission criteria is then applied to all applicants regardless of which preference Cleves may be (1,2 or 3) and offers are made at the end of February in the following year.

Cleves as a Foundation School is it's in own Admission Body which means that our Admission Criteria may be slightly different to that of Surrey County Council. In May 2008 the Cleves Admission Authority made an application for an In Year Variation to Admission Arrnagements to the Schools Adjudicator - for the removal of the Catchment Area to simply and clarify the admission process for parents applying to the school. This application was upheld by the Schools Adjudicator in July 2008 and has been immediately implemented. Cleves is part of the Equal Preference Scheme as described above and the Co-Ordinated Offer Scheme which means that all offers for the main Year 3 intake are made on the same date (as set by Surrey County Council) as all other schools.

Tours of the School

At main application time we hold two open evenings early in October and following these there are many tours of the school for you to see it in action. These can be booked at the open evenings or by phone. Tours will always be carried out in the morning at either 9.15am or 11.15am and are usually an hour long - they are not really suitable for very young children - who tend to get very bored!

At other times of the year we attempt to get small groups of parents together in order to tour the school - please contact us to arrange this but be aware that it may not happen immediately.

Day time tours for September 2009 intake are as follows - please choose a time and click on the request a tour link in the left hand column and complete the email. We will confirm your booking by email.

Friday 3rd October 9.15am or 11.15am
Monday 6th October 9.15am or 11.15am
Friday 10th October 10.00am or 11.15am
Monday 13th October 9.15am or 11.15am
Tuesday 14th October 9.15am or 11.15am
Wednesday 15th October 9.15am or 11.15am

Appeals

Should you not be offered a place at Cleves you have the right to appeal to the Governors of Cleves School against the decision not to offer your child a place.

The Governors will make arrangements to enable parents to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel having given full regard to the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. Appeals are normally held in May.

Transfer at other ages

Should a place become available for a pupil to join the school at a time other than when transferring from Infant School, the Governors will apply in order the principles set out in the over subscription criteria (see admissions policy).

Transfer to Secondary School

You will need to apply for your Secondary School place as your child joins Year 6. The process is identical to that when you apply for Year 3 and the open days and deadlines are very similar. Once you have completed your form and preferences you return the Surrey Form to Cleves any other form that a school may request is sent directly to them. Applications for secondary school can also be made on line at www.surreycc.gov.uk

The three local secondary schools are Heathside, Rydens and Esher Church of England High School. Approx. 10-15% Cleves children move into the private sector for their secondary education.
